USA - the country with the second most doping sanctions

The United States is the country with over 1000 sanctioned athletes registered in the Anti-Doping Database. That puts them on the second place. Only Russia has more – nearly 400 more.

The sport with the most sanctioned athletes is Track and field. 208 athletes participating in the sport has been given a sanction. 16 of the athletes has been sanctioned for the anti-doping rule “possession of a prohibited substance”. 12 has been sidelined after failing to provide whereabout information. Testosterone is the substance that has sidelined 11 athletes.

The substance is followed by Modafinil and ephedrine ( both 10 registered cases) and Ostarine, Tetrahydrogestrinone and EPO (all 9 cases).

Among the Olympic sports, cycling comes in second place with 131 registered athletes in our database. Weightlifting comes in third.

Baseball – minor league tops the statistics

Of the professional sports in the USA, baseball is the sport with the most doping cases. We’ve registered 138 athletes sanctioned for a doping violation. American football has 51.

In 56 of the cases the substance used has not been publicly disclosed. We have registered that amphetamine has been involved in 28 of the cases we have registered.

Most of the sanctioned athletes played in the Minor League when they tested positive. 104 of the 138 played in the MiLB. Only 12 were Major League (MLB) players.

108 of the players were given a 50 games suspension.

Successful out-of-competition testing

Of the more than 1000 registered cases involving American athletes, more than 250 of them were caught thanks to either out-of-competition testing or investigation.

32 of the athletes were sanctioned for refusing to participate in a doping control test. 28 of the athletes failed to provide whereabout information (which we also categorize as out-of-competition investigation).

Ostarine were detected in 21 of the samples collected out-of-competition, followed by testosterone.

It shows how important it is to test athletes when they are not competing.

220 of the athletes has been given a two-year ban and 103 have been sanctioned for four years.

94 has been given a public warning. 22 American athletes are serving a lifetime ban from sports after violating an anti-doping rule violation. The cyclist Duane Dickey is the last American we’ve registered in the anti-doping database to serve a lifetime suspension.
