IBU to hold Extraordinary CongressJanuary 22, 2017
The International Biathlon Union has decided to hold an Extraordinary Congress before the World Championships in Hochfilzen.
The IBU Executive Board fully understands and supports the initiative of the athletes to sharpen the IBU rules for anti – doping offenses towards both the member federations and individual athletes. In order to implement new rules as soon as possible, the IBU Executive Board calls for an Extraordinary Congress to approve rule changes and put them in practice before the IBU WCH 2017 in Hochfilzen/ AUT.
According to online reports a letter signed by no less than 170 athletes has been handed over to the IBU. The content of the letter has not been public.
EPO most used
EPO is the most commonly used substance. It has been used by athletes in 12 cases. Nandrolone has been used in three cases.
We have registered 26 doping cases related to Biathlon. 14 of these cases involves Russian athletes who dominates the list. In second place Ukraine comes with their three doping cases. Belarus and Austria ties for third place.
Ten of the athletes were caught after provided their sample out-of-competition. Three were suspended after provided their sample during the Östersund IBU World Cup event in 2008. The same number of athletes provided samples containing prohibited substances during the Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy, in 2006
