TV-documentary presents evidence of Organized doping in Russia

German ARD TV-documentary presents evidence and statements from insiders about doping and corruption practices in Russian sports

With a degree of clarity never seen before, insiders and athletes, openly and before the cameras and with plenty of evidence, have massively shaken the reputation of this year\'s Olympic and forthcoming Football World Cup host Russia. A team from the German ARD Doping Editorial Group which is based in the WDR, Cologne, in months of work has succeeded in compiling shocking findings about doping practices in Russia. In the programme \"Secret Doping Dossier: How Russia produces its Winners\" (Wednesday, 3 December 2014, 18.50 - 19.50 hours, Das Erste - 1st German TV Channel), author Hajo Seppelt presents exclusive insights into the practically inaccessible sport system in Russia. The 60-minute documentary presents secret recordings in image, sound and text and presents sobering facts as well as a large number of references to state-sponsored doping and an apparently gigantic fraud and cover-up apparatus in the background. For the first time, insiders and athletes appear before the camera and talk about almost comprehensive and systematic doping in the key Olympic sports, in particular, in athletics. Coaches and athletes, including convicted dopers, paint a frightening picture: in Russia anyone with inside knowledge are put under pressure and threatened, to ensure they keep quiet. They tell of fear for their existence, sometimes even for their lives. Until now, such insights were impossible - also because apparently some of the top officials keep the system running with the help of intimidation and corruption. The level of corruption, however, appears to extend far beyond Russia: it ranges into at least one leading world sport governing body, whose dubious business practices are examined in this documentary.
