Latvian Biathlon athlete provisionally suspended

The International Biathlon Union has provisionally suspended the Latvian athlete Edgars Pikson for an Anti-Doping Rule Violation.

This decision was based on an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) in the athlete’s A sample. Mr. Piksons of Latvia, has now waived his right of opening the B sample. Piksons\' adverse analytical finding in the A sample was the result of a sample collected in Priekuli, Latvia on 22 September, 2014 as an Out-of -Competition Test. The sample was taken by IDTM on behalf of the IBU. The laboratory report (from the laboratory in Cologne) of the urine sample showed the presence of 19-norandrosterone. 19-norandrosterone belongs to group S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) of the WADA Prohibited List. As the substance detected is prohibited under the applicable Prohibited List, the IBU will now initiate the disciplinary procedure, and the case will be assigned to the IBU Anti-Doping Hearing Panel for adjudication. The Latvian athletes provisional suspension will remain valid until the final decision is taken by the IBU Anti-Doping Hearing Panel. The final decision will be published as soon as it is available.
